The History of Ragir

This is what would be considered an academic timeline in the world of Ragir itself, common knowledge, and may not accurately reflect what actually happened.

Before time, there was the creation of Raen.

Long ago, the world we know was merely an egg, floating in the abyss with it’s brother. Two twins, Raen and Parathenus, children of Io, children of the dragon god. In time, Parathenus grew and awoke and birthed himself in an explosion of power. His shell, once crystal and beautiful, was shattered into millions of shards. Raen saw this and was made sad. He prized even his own shell, and would not allow himself to be born so as not to spoil it.

Alone, Parathenus tried to fix his shell, using a tear to hold the pieces he could find back together. He named it Ragir. Raen shone light on Ragir. He deigned to grant life to his brother’s creation and created the Quatar, god-like men who would cultivate and protect it. Parathenus, still unable to coax his brother from his shell, grew angry and chose to burn his creation to spite his brother, or so the story goes…

The Old Kings: The Dragonborn

Dragonborn

The Dragonborn aren’t a classical fantasy creature, and they aren’t related to the character of the same name from Skyrim either. Dragonborn are a powerful humanoid race that are, surprisingly, dragon like. They are a race of wandering mercenaries, soldiers and adventurers.

In our campaign setting, the Dragonborn are almost a pre-cursor race, Io created them on Ragir because he didn’t like the Quatar, long before the Elves, Humans and other Humanoids found their way to the plane with their magic. The Dragonborn wiped out the Quatar and once held full dominion over Ragir. It was the undead flood, the Quatar they had destroyed in the first place, that eventually overran Arag and wiped out almost all of the Dragonborn kingdoms. Now only a few rootless clans of these honorable warriors remain to pass on their legends of ancient glory.

Their old kingdoms are the bedrock upon which the Human ones form today, and all of the great cities of Ragir were built and lived in by the Dragonborn race.

The Land of the Two Kings

Map: The Land of Two Kings

The Land of the Two Kings

The Land of the Two Kings is part of Arag’s Talon and is officially called Moros. It is ruled, as the name suggests, by a pair of married kings; King Aestelstan and King Egbert. The land is split into seven duchy’s and the kingdom is generally regarded as one of the safest lands in Ragir for Humankind, the inhabitants of which are healthy, honourable and pious. For other races, however, Moros has a reputation for being insular and slightly xenophobic and it can be difficult for some to find success within it’s society. Moros is kept safe by a powerful army and is notable for having extremely large walls that border the north and south, keeping a paranoid control over imported goods and preventing dangerous creatures from entering Moros at will.

Calendar

The Calendar of Ragir

Long ago, the world of Ragir was a merely an egg, floating in the the great nothing with a brother, trapped in an endless twin orbit. Inside this egg, the god Parathenus grew and awoke. In it’s brother, the god Raen. Parathenus birthed in an explosion of power and tore the planet into many pieces. Raen was saddened by the sight of his brothers shell broken and would not be birthed as to avoid doing so to his own. Alone, Parathenus attempted to fix broken shell, piecing it back together on a ball of water and naming it Ragir. Raen shone light on Ragir, granting life to his brothers creation but still would not awake from his shell. Parathenus, in rage, chose to burn his creation to spite his brother. Or so the story goes.

Each cycle of Raen takes 1 day, providing night and day.

Each cycle of Parathenus takes 197 years, which is split into 4 seasons. Each season lasts 50 years, with the exception of Khala, which lasts 47 years.

The Land of Ragir

The Land of Ragir is not made up of many large continents, it is much more island-based due to its history of being created with shards of an egg on a ball of water.

A map of Ragir, featuring the main continent of Arag and others.

There are many places in Ragir, and there may even be places that can not be found on the map above, but this post is aimed at providing a brief description and a bit of history for each of the named lands shown.
